1. Lake Windermere
Much of the series is set around the shores of Lake Windermere, with the stunning fells as a backdrop. In fact, any scenes in or on the water were shot on location at Lake Windermere. This includes the chilly swimming scenes performed by actress Faye Marsay, who plays DC Joanne Aspinall in the show. If you plan to visit the area there’s plenty to do, including rowing boat hire, lake cruises, water sports or even a picnic at Fell Foot Park. 2. Bowness-on-Windermere
The lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere features in the show as the workplace of character Roz Toovey. There are many shots showing the cobbled streets of Bowness and the lovely array of local, independent shops on offer. The town features a lot within the series and would be a great place to visit for fans of the show – why not head down to the pier and watch the boats come and go, or explore the World of Beatrix Potter attraction, before enjoying a good old portion of fish and chips on the beach! 3. Staveley
The small village of Staveley is a key location in the programme, uniting all three main characters, Lisa, Roz & Kate, as they meet at the school gates each hiding their own secrets from one another. These scenes were filmed at Staveley Primary School. The village is also the location for the homes of Lisa and Roz. Visitors to Staveley can enjoy an evening in the Hawkshead Brewery or a bite to eat at Wilf’s Cafe, before hopping on the bus or train into the heart of the Lake District.
4. Hawkshead
One of the more impressive Deep Water filming locations is the house of character Kate Riverty. The backdrop to her eventful party in episode one, the elegant house overlooks Lake Windermere & is a real home, close to the village of Hawkshead. If staying in the area, visitors can revel in the quaint charm of Hawkshead with it’s cobbled streets and historic buildings. Amongst the most popular attractions are the cat cafe called Kittchen, The Little Ice Cream Shop and the National Trust Beatrix Potter Gallery.
5. Holbeck Ghyll
Holbeck Ghyll Country House is one of the most easily recognisable Deep Water filming locations. This lovely building features in episode two and shows off its beautiful, authentic interiors. Featuring as the backdrop of several key scenes in the show, this would be a great location to visit. The House offers fine dining and spa treatments, perfect for an afternoon of pampering.
6. Bluebird Cafe, Coniston
A key filming location is the real-life Bluebird Cafe on the shores of Coniston Water, appearing in the show as The Swan cafe. Many tense conversations & pivotal scenes unfold here in the programme – why not try it for yourself and pop in for a coffee when you visit. There’s plenty of other things to do and see in Coniston too, including the Ruskin Museum and the Steam Yacht Gondola.
